UPDATES: there is a video to all you conference skiers from Gifford (link at the bottom) and I added the link to the mental prep videos from virtual training so you can watch in prep for the races. I also attached the start lists. The course also changed, so be aware. The new course is listed below.
Lastly, I will excuse all the high schoolers from attendance on their race day, but you NEED to make up your work and communicate with your teachers about missing work and how to make it up.
Northwest Suburban Conference Nordic Championship at Theodore Wirth Park
Feb. 22 – Boys
Feb. 23 – Girls
We got the early slot for both boys and girls. Here is the race schedule for each day.
1. Teams 1-3 10:00am – Classic. 10:40 – Freestyle. 11:30 exit
Pete will keep your classic skis until race day If you want to classic between saturday and race day, try to borrow someone else’s. If you want to skate ski after getting them waxed, you also need to borrow someone else’s skis because you should not ski on your race skis until race day. Pete will keep the classic skis so that we can get them ready in the morning, but you do not need to be there with us. You race at 10:00. You can show up any time after 8:30, but if you want to wait until 9:00 or 9:15, that is completely fine. We will not be allowed in the building so you will need to stay warm before the race in a car or keep moving around. Dress warm with layers. In between races, you will go and change into your other boots, poles, skis, and get back to the line. You will only have about 25 minutes between races. put some layers on, keep moving and get changed.
We will have a designated area for team camps (will come later).
Masks are to be worn before races and after, but do not need to be on during races.
You will keep the same Bib for both races (10 skiers per team)
Green Meadow (Minus Inner Meadow) Ridgeline , North Finger and back to Stadium – 3.5 km
for both races.
Will have our own lane to ski all of our skiers out of.
After our two races are done, we must cool down quickly and exit our team camp area and the finish area so next group can start getting set.
Results will be combined with other races from the day for overall standings.
Spectators should not be by the start or finish areas
other notes from race coordinator:
No trailers in parking lot – but can have a bus or vans. – space reserved across from trailhead.
Can park at Old Chalet – if needed.
Try not to arrive with your team more than 1:30 before your race – team camps spread out along fencing away from start.
Pick up bibs at timing building or outside trailhead – depends on where we can set up best.
Spectators allowed but not in start/finish areas or camps.
Need to return 10 bibs after second race bring to old timing building – put in box.
Masks needed by all except when racing.
Timing – time your skiers – used as a back up – if you can.
No results until all teams are done and will be emailed to coaches. No awards done today.
