week 7 and 8

22 Dec 2024 by Matt Gifford

Wow, this week was pretty wild and I am so grateful for all of you and your flexibility. This sport provides enough of its own challenges, but this week we even had the cancelled after school activities and a scheduling conflict in Mora. But as usual, you all did an amazing job of flexing with us and making the most of the opportunities that we were given. The trip up to Mora wasn’t what we originally wanted, but we were able to the race we missed in along with some great time as a team cheering, hanging out all day, and finishing it all off with a great time at Pizza Ranch. We love those times we get to spend with you. Thanks for making it all work and making it a great experience for everyone.
As we come into our next two weeks, you will want to know a few things.
1. We have only 13 weeks in the season and we have already finished 6 if them. We cannot afford to take 2 weeks off. If you cannot make it to practice, we will post the workouts that you should accomplish. Please try to get them done. For those of you that cannot ski, typically you can take a ski workout and divide it by 2 for the time for a run (90 minute ski = 45-50 min run). SKiing is always best and is necessary to keep improving. Please make it a priority as much as you can to be there or get out on snow.
2. We will be updating whether we are skating or classic skiing as the week goes on based on weather. We want to try to classic, but right now it is looking like a lot of skate this week, then switching to classic next week, but we will update each practice as we go through the week.
3. The meet was switched from Jan 2 to Jan 3 as well and it moved from Elm to Hyland.
4. We will be communicating about Mesabi (varsity only) as soon as we can take a look at times. We typically error on the side of older skiers to make sure they have the chance to go up and ski in the race. We will keep you updated as decisions are made.

That is all for now, please have a great break! Enjoy the time with family and friends, Take time to tell people you are grateful for them and why.
Try to make it to practice as much as possible and enjoy time with us too!
Let me know if you have questions or concerns. I don’t know if I am not communicating well unless you tell me.
