Week 5!

10 Dec 2023 by Matt Gifford

We are finally starting the real ski season! You have all done a wonderful job doing an extended dryland and getting everything set so that we can ski this week. I am proud of you. I am really hopeful that you were able to to get out and ski over the past week, but if not, we will try to get you caught up right away on Monday. Lets have a great week. Here are the details as we know them now:

1. The schedule is all updated and has lots of details. We have weird practice times, but this is a pretty typical week. Mondays and friday are typically the after school practices and there are meets at Elm on tuesday-Friday so we are not allowed there until after, so that is why we have the evening practices. If there is more ski-able snow at other locations soon, we might be able to shift to after school practices, but they won’t be at elm. they would be at French or Eagle. Since our skiers are driving themselves and middle schoolers do not typically have rides to those locations, many times we opt to stay at Elm in the evenings so we can have everyone there and we aren’t driving all around town too much.
2. As of right now, I have not posted practice plan for Friday. It will most likely be a ski on your own day along with saturday. There is a chance that we would try to have a quick dryland practice instead but most likely you will be skiing on your own. It is incredibly important that one these types of days, you need to make it a priority to get out and ski. Most likely things will continue this way and we won’t have snow time every day of every week, so we cannot simply take a day or two off every week and expect to maximize our potential. we need to take full advantage of our proximity to Elm Creek and get there every day.
3. I think we got the shuttle busses working, so hopefully they are all set for middle schoolers, but if something changes, middle schoolers, let us know in the chat right away so we can help. OMS athletes, I would check to see if bus 271 is actually there and is planning to go to Elm Creek. If it isn’t, ride your normal bus to MGSH and get on the shuttle to Elm from there. Again, post in the chat if any of these plans do not work out. In order to ride the bus, your skis do need to be in a bag FYI.
4. We had planned to have our large team bonding trip to Mora on Wednesday Dec. 20, but that will no longer work. they do not have enough snow and this week will not be able to make much more. Instead we will be shifting it to January 13. We like to use MLK weekend because then the athletes still have two days to recover and get their work done.We would love for a whole bunch of you to be there. Please see the events tabs for more details. You must sign up for it ahead of time, so we can plan for numbers, more details will be posted over break.

As we always say, time on snow is valuable. We have no idea what the weather will do in the coming months, so we need to take advantage of snow time when we get it. We know the schedule is goofy, but try to make these practices a priority so we can learn the most possible.

As always, please feel free to email me if you have any questions or post in the chat as many have started to do. Those are great ways to get your questions answered. See you all on the snow on Monday!
